InterPlay:
Exploring Play As A Spiritual Discipline
Horizon
Unitarian Church,
1641
Hebron Pkwy.
Carrolton, TX. 75010
Held one a month on Saturday morning, the group will begin again in the fall.
“Lighten
up,”
“Be
in the present moment,”
“See
the beauty in simple,
everyday realities,”
“Participate
in acts of creation
and reverence for life!”
We often live with the cultural
messages that “you can’t
play till all your work is done”, (and when would that ever happen?).
Or
self-talk about “acting your age,” or “not having talent, or rhythm, or
a good
voice.” How about replacing these
messages with the above messages from various spiritual traditions that
see
play as a spiritual discipline?
InterPlay is an experiential playful
practice involving
movement and stillness, sound and silence. With these items, and the
affirmation and support of one another we “make stuff up in the
moment”,
creating individual and group stories. Developed by two dancing
ministers,
Cynthia Winton-Henry and Phil Porter, the incremental forms and simple
agreements of InterPlay enable people to connect with and express their
creativity and celebrate their connection to “all that is”.
In this 2 ½ hour playshop, we
will review messages from
various spiritual traditions that encourage playfulness, humor, and the
return,
for adults, to the light-heartedness of children. Taking small,
incremental
steps, we will practice fun InterPlay forms that assist people to find
grace
and ease and to handle the stress of a busy life.
